Seen on Firefox trunk Mac build 2004-10-13-07-trunk -enter a search topic in the search field, enter to run the search. -begin typing the same topic in the search field tested results: no autocomplete list appeared expected results: an autocomplete list appears with the topic being typed listed. This affects the search field, the location bar, form fields, password (username) fields.
Tracy, is this an issue in Oct 12 builds too? What about Oct 11 ones?
I can answer. It is an issue in Oct 12 build and not in Oct 11 build.

This is working as expected for me on Firefox branch builds from 1020 (Win and Mac) Mozilla has a completely different form handling feature. Location bar autocomplere works as expected on Mozilla trunk 1020 (Windows) Marking fixed associated with bug 238493

Sorry about that. Testing trunk.... It works on Firefox trunk build from 1020 on Windows. (the default setting is -off- for save form info on the trunk, which threw me off for a second)

goodness. too BFT'ed out. Thanks for keeping this straight. This is still busted as of 1018 Mac trunk Firefox. Can't test todays build on mac trunk firefox because it won't launch.
