This problem occurs for all extension install/downloads on update.mozilla.org. 
I was able to download extensions fine a couple of weeks ago, but get a
"Download error" on every attempt now (after the extensions window pops up). 
After the "Download error", subsequent attempts to install extensions do not
even cause the dialog asking for permission to install to appear.  I am able to
install extensions not hosted on the ftp.mozilla.org server.  (i.e. from home
page of weather extension or stock extension).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open
http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/install.php/sage_1_2_2.xpi?id=77&vid=630
2. Click install on installation prompt
3. Extension window opens with download error
4. Re-open
http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/install.php/sage_1_2_2.xpi?id=77&vid=630
5. Nothing happens

Deleting everything from the extensions directory within my Firefox profile
resolved the problem.  I'm guessing there was some corruption or some such. 
Perhaps this could be detected and corrected instead of throwing out a "Download
Error"  This problem could also be specific to the OSX platform.
