It would be nice to be able to set up server side mail filters from mozilla.
I would like to have something like avelsieve plugin for squirrelmail.
Then with IMAP for mail and LDAP for addresses one could have completly same
environment on more than one place, e.g. home/office/school.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter Tools/Message Filters menu
2.
3.

Actual Results:
It is only possible to set up client side filters.

Expected Results:
Switch to select either server-side or client side filters.

Switch should be grayed if server is POP3 or doesn't support sieve.
bug clean up. Thanks to mike for pointing these out.

feel free to add as an extension.

I think this particular feature is something beyond an extension, really... Especially now that Thunderbird has Kerberos support, it would be easier to have Thunderbird do the Kerberos negotiation with the SIEVE server.
this is the thunderbird version of seamonkey's bug 79525, which still remains open.

the sieve thunderbird extension from http://sieve.mozdev.org will upload sieve scripts to a supporting server using the MANAGESIEVE protocol.

i hope that sieve becomes popular enough to some day to justify direct integration into thunderbird. some might argue that this is already the case :)
Your SIEVE plugin doesn't appear to support SASL/GSSAPI, so in my case does nothing to resolve the issue. :/
quanah: i have nothing to do with the extension. i encourage you to file an enhancement request in their bugzilla, though. if you do, you may as well reference it here.
Times have changed, at least several drivers think it should be reopened.
