Like Henrik suggests, this WORKSFORME. WinXP SP2, Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041019 Firefox/1.0 Reporter, can you confirm that this occurs with a new profile (see "Via the -ProfileManager Switch" at http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.phtml?title=Profile_Folder#How_do_I_create_a_new_profile? ). Can you confirm that this happens on a newer Firefox build? (perhaps something which crashed for you was fixed recently?) With the Firefox build described above, if I create a new profile, add a bookmark named "Gmail" with the location "http://gmail.google.com/", I cannot reproduce a crash. I believe I used to see similar issues where Gmail would not get beyong the "Loading..." screen, but this has not happened in a while. Can you consistently crash accessing http://gmail.google.com/? Can you consistently crashing when accessing https://gmail.google.com/? (without the question mark, of course)
I got a very similar crash this morning on my linux box. However, in my case, I was attempting to switch to a new tab while gmail was loading so I couldn't tell which action caused the crash. Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041026 Firefox/1.0RC1

The crash generally (9 out of 10 times) occurs when opening gmail via a third party email checker (like Google's official Gmail Notifier). It also occassionally (1 out of 10 times) occurs when opening gmail from the bookmarks toolbar. Creating a new profile does seem to alleviate the problem. Does this mean the problem is related to an extension? How would I find out?

(In reply to comment #7) > The crash generally (9 out of 10 times) occurs when opening gmail via a third > party email checker (like Google's official Gmail Notifier). I am not sure what other questions I can ask to clarify things. You certainly do get the crash though, as shown by your talkback crash, but apparently not with a new profile. > Creating a new profile does seem to alleviate the problem. Does this mean the > problem is related to an extension? How would I find out? You can disable extensions by going to Tools->Extensions. To disable the extensions, right click on them and click Disable. Once this is done, see if you can crash Firefox with your current profile.

I found the cause for my crash... undoclosetab extension (http://dorando.emuverse.com/projects/mozilla/undoclosetab.xpi)

FWIW, I also have intermittent crashes with gmail just as described above, and I also have undoclosetab installed. But I really want undoclosetab. Is it a problem in firefox or in the extension? Could it be fixed?

(In reply to comment #10) I am using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041026 Firefox/1.0 The extension only is for 0.9 to 0.10, and I am using the 1.0 RC1 version, so I cannot install it at the moment. I have emailed Dorando, who created the extension, and asked him to visit this bug. My guess is that the bug is with the extension.

Current builds of Firefox works perfectly without this extension. So it's not a Firefox bug. I'm closing this because it's related to an extension.

Completely forgotten about this one... The status of this bug should be reevaluated as per bug 256827 comment 13 . I'm not aware of anything in undoclosetab which could cause this, it's rather likely that this is an application which is triggered by it.

I haven't had the issue crop up while using nightly builds or the 1.0 final. So looking back, I'm not certain the extension was the culprit. In fact, considering that gmail was in an evolving beta stage, it's entirely possible that gmail's scripts were the cause.
