I've found a big bug in TB 0.8 which didn't happen in TB 0.7.3.
On reception of new mails, TB sometimes moves those supposed-to-be-junkmails to
the Junk folder. But unluckily, sometimes it simply deletes those
supposed-to-be-junkmails. And because of this, I've lost several important mails.
I'm sure of this for two reasons:
1) Whenever we receive new mails, TB writes it's getting a certain number of
mails. But at the end of the reception, when I count the total of new mails in
Inbox and Junk folders, from time to time, it's less than the displayed number.
2) I've configured my TB to leave a copy in POP3 server (in Yahoo), and today,
the problem happened again. Then I got inside Yahoo and checked it. Indeed, I
got an email from an old friend whose address isn't in my address book, and
unfortunately TB identified the mail as junk. And that "junk mail" can't be
found anywhere; neither in Inbox no in Junk. It just vanished! Then I checked
the Junk log to make sure, and it's written clearly there the mail was
identified as Junk, but TB deleted it.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
Well, I can't tell you exactly how this happens. I can't found a "pattern" or
"situation" to make it happen.

please try a newer .8 build, e.g.,
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/2004-10-18-05-0.8/
this is a dup of 260981 (same underlying bug, though symptoms don't appear
identical)
