found using 2004101809-0.9 on linux fc2 (using gnome). not sure if this is limited to linux. 0. make sure that firefox is set to be the default web browser. 1. open the Bookmarks Manager window, select File > Export. 2. the [xul] filepicker dialog appears. I kept the default filename (bookmarks.html), and chose my desktop as the target location. hit Save button. observe: the file is saved on my desktop. its icon initially contains the firefox emblem, but I doubleclick it and a couple odd things happen: a. the desktop icon for the file turns into the green gnome foot icon. b. get an alert: "Cannot open bookmarks.html" and verbage saying that opening this file might pose a security risk, etc. this is odd, because I can still do the following * save a webpage (ctrl+S), and it appears as a firefox file on the desktop. doubleclicking it loads it firefox as expected. * I can still open bookmarks.html in firefox (ctrl+O) and it loads fine.

afaiui, gnome/nautilus complains because the sniffed file type, "Mozilla bookmarks", is different from the file type indicated by the .html extension, "HTML page". As suggested in the long-winded alert dialog, right-clicking on the file gives various text editors and web browsers for opening the file with. Firefox can be associated to open "Mozilla bookmarks" files (through context menu > open w/ other app, or context menu > properties > open with), but that doesn't get rid of the alert. (firefox aviary 20041016, gnome 2.8 or thereabouts) Related gnome bugs: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154626 Bug 154626: Can't open file with extension .log http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154893 Bug 154893: mime-info for ASF and WMV needs clearing up can't use WMV files properly under gnome

Er, sorry, I misread, the alert doesn't suggest anything to do with the context
menu, but rather points to a (nonexistent in 2.8) "Open With" menu.Assignee: vladimir → vladimir+bm
