Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1) Opera 7.60 [en] (IBM EVV/3.0/EAK01AG9/LE)
Build Identifier: version 0.8 (20041017)

Note: issue observed with Opera 7.6 Preview 1 as default browser
Clicking a link from the "Website" field in the heading of the RSS message opens
a new tab titled "about:blank", instead of the actual URL.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set Opera as default browser.
2. View an RSS feed.
3. Click the link after "website:"

Actual Results:
Opera opened with a new tab titled "about:blank"

Expected Results:
Opera should have opened a new tab with the actual site.

Not certain if this is a Thunderbird issue, or an Opera issue. If someone can
(technically) articulate the problem, I'd gladly pass it along to Opera.
I'm actually seeing this with *every* link in Thunderbird (0.8, Win2K).
It's particularly annoying because the Website header link can't be copied
(bug 261717).

You're right--any link produces this problem, and the website header link cannot
be copied. As far as I can tell, the issue of links opening blank pages is not
reported in any other bug.
This was only happening when the link is opening in Opera 7.x -- my default
browser is O7.5.2, which gets started before any other browser and generally is
running all the time.

However, I've found a workaround; Brett Leber, please check this and state
whether it fixes things for you. In my Windows registry, I had
  HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\command *and*
  HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\ddeexec

The DDE branch, for reasons I do not understand, was pointing to Mozilla. I
removed that branch [1], and now I'm getting the links to open properly, and (so
far) always into Opera7, regardless of what else is running).

[1] Windows Explorer |Tools | Folder Options | File Types
locate "N/A | URL (Hyper Text...)" in list of types
  click Advanced
  select Open
  click Edit
  uncheck "Use DDE"
  OK
I only have HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\command, which has a default entry
pointing to Opera. Indeed, clicking a link from Thunderbird brings up a new page
in Opera, but it only reads "about:blank" in the address bar. I haven't changed
my default browser to see if this happens for other browsers.
Updating to remove the superfluous refs to RSS.

Summary: "Website" link from RSS feed fails to open site, but opens a blank page (Opera 7.6p1) → Links from TB fails to open site, but opens a blank page in browser (Opera 7.6p1)
Should this now be marked as fixed? All links in TB 0.9 Final are opening
properly into Opera 7.6p2. I have installed newest Opera Preview Release (7.6
P2) since I entered this bug, but I can confirm that the issue was still
occuring up until TB 0.9 release today.
