User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041001 Firefox/0.10.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041001 Firefox/0.10.1

Middle clicking on a URL should open one a single tab, but if the middle-click
is done slowly, or the middle-button held down, multiple tabs containing the
same URL are opened.

Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. middle click on URL, but hold the middle-button down briefly, or for more
than 2 seconds
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Multiple tabs containing the same URL are opened.

Expected Results:
Open one new tab only.

This doesn't happen 100% of the time. The slower i click, the more likely it
appears to happen. I thought it might be a case of the mouse moving slightly
while i was clicking but holding the mouse off the desk while clicking has no
impact.
tested in latest nightly ff (deer park alpha 1)
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050607 Firefox/1.0+

unable to reproduce. i do have this behavior in 1.0.4 stable with a bunch of
extensions installed. i suspect this behavior may be caused by some extension i
am running.

Please, try to reproduce the bug in trunk/deerpark and/or clean profile and mark
WORKSFORME if it is working.
This behavior happens to me but only on my mac not on my linux box.
Same problem on Firefox 1.5RC1 in Linux.

Middle-clicking a link (frequently but not always) results in more than one tab being opened for that one link.
I have WinXP, Firefox 1.5
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5

I have the same problem, but it is just slightly different. If you hold down a link for more than about 3 secs or more, then let go of the middle click button, it opens a new tab. If you hold it down from 1 to 3 secs, it sometimes (but not always) opens multiple tabs. If you do your middle click as fast as possible, it usually (but still not always) opens multiple tabs.

Overall, this behavior is not at all consistent; it seems to come and go. I'm not sure what's causing it, it doesn't seem to be an HTML tag or anything (but I am not an expert software developer, so I can't make any guarantees about this).
I have this on an old PC running NT. It is inconsistent, and sometimes the number of click-through new tabs could be a dozen, but more often two or three. It doesn't happen all the time and I can't see a pattern. The only extension I have installed is MAB 1.3.5. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060308 Firefox/1.5.0.2
I have the sambe bug using version 1.5.0.4 on Kubuntu (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060608 Ubuntu/dapper-security Firefox/1.5.0.4), would love to see it fixed. I can reproduce the results after reinstalling firefox from scratch and creating a new profile.
I think this is related to the kind of mouse/mouse-drive being used.

I purchased a new mouse to replace the one I used to have this problem with a couple months ago and have never got the 'middle-click opens multiple tabs' problem again.
Re: typo in my previous comment above:
'mouse drive' should be 'mouse driver'

Well that doesn't say much about Firefox, if people have to buy a new mouse in order to use the browser...
"Well that doesn't say much about Firefox, if people have to buy a new mouse in

Being a bit dramatic aren't we? It's pretty clear that the large majority of users don't have to buy a new mouse just for Firefox.
works for me. If you can reproduce with a current Bon Echo (Firefox 2) build from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla1.8/, please reopen.
