confirmed, asking for blocker for 1.1 since several average users already told
me about it, it seems to be quite a visible bug for end-users

Work in enhancing the bookmarks search was started in bug 176400. Also,
enhancement requests very rarely block releases.

Can we combine this with bug 176400 then and mark as dupe? I don't see why they
should be treated separately.

As an aside, I think this problem is a very visible one and reflects poorly on
Firefox. I have run into it myself and heard about it from a couple of other
users. Without this feature, the bookmark search function is crippled enough
where I consider it a bug, and bookmark management in general is limited. Seems
like a "loss of function" to me, not merely an enhancement.

So I'd like to request that the severity be upgraded to "minor". Thanks.

sorry for bugspam, long-overdue mass reassign of ancient QA contact bugs, filter on "beltznerLovesGoats" to get rid of this mass change

making bookmark's description content searchable should be a task to be strived for (and - mentioning in advanced - not point to extension land).

Not going to block the 3.1 release for this, as it's just not a heavily requested feature. For users who do utilize the description field, it'd be great to search it via the awesomebar.

It seems there's a lot of bugs related to the improvement of the search to take in account descriptions and others informations. Would it be a good idea to bring together all within a single bug report and mark others as a duplicate? I think for example of these bugs:

- Bug 265048 - Search/find won't find text in the Description column
- Bug 393574 - should descriptions, string annotations be searched when we url bar autocomplete?
- Bug 393584 - should bookmark sidebar and organizer search on descriptions, string annotations?
- Bug 406246 - search bookmark titles and descriptions for url bar autocomplete
- Bug 57859 - option to show urls and descriptions in search sidebar
no, we split bugs to have smaller changes, the opposite is what we try to avoid (even if sometimes that happens, so that's up to the implementer based on his vision of the issue)

OK, thanks for the response. But the bug 393584 isn't a duplicate of this current bug?
Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.

while the bookmarks description field is going away, we'll still have a description set by Activity Stream. It's unclear whether we want to search through it or not at this time.

After so much time, this is still not planned, AS changed a lot as well as search. I'll close this and eventually we'll re-evaluate when we have a plan.
