I create new folders as I need them. This process is buggy as if you hit OK nothing seems to happen - when you cancel and then look at the bookmarks they are there - if you hit ok several times, it will be saved there several times. When I close Firefox and then reopen it, all the bookmarks are gone. I have noticed this more after a reboot. The only difference I can think of is that I set my default Firefox directory where it stores things to a different directory when going through the setup process. I do this to make backing up the PC easier. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a bookmark 2. Close Firefox 3. Reboot PC 4. Re-open Firefox Actual Results: All bookmarks are gone Expected Results: It should have saved the bookmarks.
can you check that your profile isn't somehow set to read-only? The symptoms sound like that..

I have had the same problem on multiple Firefox installations on multiple computers. After a re-boot, ALL bookmarks will sometimes be gone.

Not sure if this is a dupe of bug 260553. Reporter said he closed Firefox before rebooting (but maybe it didn't close completely?)
