The flashing cursor-position marking bar (whatever you call it. :) is displayed
at the beginning of a text entry box. However, as one types in it, the
flashing cursor stays on the left margin. In all other respects text entry
works fine.. I just can't never be sure where the cursor really is because it is
stuck to the left-hand side of the text input box.

I originally submitted this to the gtk folks because I thought it was a gtk bug.
However, further testing showed gtk was working fine and I also learned mozilla
apparantly doesn't use the gtk textentry stuff stuff anyway.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run Mozilla
2. Click in URL entry box
3. Note cursor is already flashing on the far left
4. Start typing
5. Observe cursor position indicator is stationary.

Actual Results:
Cursor is still frozen to left-hand side of text input box.

Expected Results:
Cursor should have moved as I typed.

It really makes it hard to use mozilla when the text input cursor is never in
the right place.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

The latest beta releases can be obtained from:

I root-caused the problem to be using an older version of gcc. Using a newer
version resolved the issue.
