I just tried to run the smoketest B27 and it does not save the files. 
winxp 2004101904

I created a new profile and then mozilla even crashed when I selected the save
page as.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a5) Gecko/20041019

WFM (but with my old profile, I didn't test a new one)
removing compreg.dat fixes the problem
