User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041013 Firefox/0.9.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041013 Firefox/0.9.0 It should be possible to add a 'base link' to a live bookmark - a link that you click which takes you to the page the RSS feed is for. E.g. I create a Live bookmark for the RSS feed at slashdot. I could then add a link which will always be at the top of that live bookmark pointing to www.slashdot.org, with a separator in between that and the entries. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Make a live bookmark Actual Results: Can only define name/location for bookmark. Expected Results: Asked for a 'base link' This could be done by changing the 'OK' button in the create live bookmark prompt into a Next button. The next page would have a prompt to either add a base link or complete the bookmark. The page & name for the 'base link' could be taken from the page that you added the livemark from, if you used the orange button. Adding base links to an already present live bookmark could be handled by right clicking on the live bookmark and having an 'Add base link' option in the menu.
discovering the "base link" is problematic in that the correct base link is not always clear. Merely grabbing the domain is not sufficient. Also, anything that turns a dialog into a wizard is not going to happen.
The <link> tag in the RSS could be used if #251447 is implemented. Otherwise, the page that the user was on when they created the livemark could be used. Turning a dialog into a wizard was just an idea - the dialog could be made larger with the new stuff underneath, or the 'base link' part could be shown/hidden in the dialog (like the up/down arrow next to the 'choose location' drop down list in the add bookmark dialog).
Yes, this is very good idea! I speak for this enhacement.
Another option is to turn the folder part of the live bookmark into a bookmark for its homepage. It could be user setable or get the homepage from the <link> tag in the rss feed.
Daniel's idea is what I was looking for when I found this bug. If I have Ars Tech as a live bookmark, and I click on the folder instead of drilling down to the individual stories, I'd like that to take me to the homepage.
