I was browsing at http://www.softmachine.de/artwork.htm when FireFox suddenly
crashed.

When restarting FF I get this message:
~$ firefox

If I rename prefs.js FF works, but I of course don't have my settings anymore.

Let me know, if you want a tar.bz2 archive of my entire .mozilla/firefox directory.

Are you sure your prefs.js is corrupted? Do you forge your user-agent (as IE)?
If so, delete the line which forges the UA and try again. The error message
comes from the Java plugin/JRE.
You are right, the prefs.js is not corrupted, eventhough renaming it makes FF start.

Starting FF as an other user for the first time, and replacing this prefs.js
with the "corrupted" prefs.js, FF works with the "corrupted" prefs.js.

I have used the User Agent Switcher for a coupe of days ago, but it was set to
default at the time of crashing.

Perhaps the change to default was not saved due to the crash.
