User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040910 MultiZilla/1.6.4.0b
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040910 MultiZilla/1.6.4.0b

I have been experiencing this problem since upgrading from Mozilla 1.7.1 to
1.7.2 & 1.7.3 (on WinXP Pro), in which Drag'n'Drop DOES NOT WORK in the
Bookmarks Manager or the Sidebar.

Curiously, it is possible to Drag'n'Drop URLs (but not Directories/Folders) in
the PERSONAL TOOLBAR bookmarks or even from the Bookmarks menu.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Left-click on any URL (in Browser or Bookmarks Manager)
2. Try to Drag it onto the Sidebar or onto the Bookmarks Manager Window
(or, in Bookmarks Manager, try to MOVE it to another location)
3.

Actual Results:
Cursor changes to 'Unavailable' or 'No Access' symbol;
URL cannot be dropped in new location

Expected Results:
Cursor should point to desired location of Bookmark and release/place the URL at
that point when the left mouse button is released.
First of all, you probably see a JavaScript error on your JS console, and if
not, goto QPrefs/JavaScript Settings/Show warnings and errors in chrome

Reporter, please use QPrefs/Extension Management and uncheck MultiZilla,
*before* you file bugs in Mozilla's bugzilla database! Always note that you did
this when filing bug reports here, thank you.

This is most likely caused by Jan Varga's changes in tree.xml. Please use a more
recent mozilla build, that should help ;)

Subject: [Bug 266156] Cannot drag'n'drop URLs/Links in Bookmarks Manager or Sidebar

Hi,

I thought I was using the most recent stable release of Mozilla (1.7.3), 1.8
being still in Alpha phase!

However, I tried unchecking Multizilla and discovered that the normal
Drag'n'Drop function is restored when Multizilla is
disabled; further investigation revealing that the problem has in fact been
noted on the Multizilla Bugs page as Bug# 7732
although it's not clear to me as a non-programmer whether or not it has been
resolved and if so, how?

Could you advise please?

Max Vardon
resolving as invalid since it's a bug in the Multizilla extension and not in
Mozilla.

Multizilla is hosted on Mozdev, so the referenced bug number is very likely to
be at http://bugzilla.mozdev.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7732

I just went and looked at the Multizilla bug on mozdev, and turns out this was
actually a bug in Mozilla (bug 221619), and it's been fixed already, as of
10/28/2004. Any build dated 20041029 or later should work.
Just for the record: this is a compatibility issue with some Mozilla builds (not
all builds are patched with Jan Varga's tree work) and that is the real problem.

Is there any way for a non-programmer to identify whether a Mozilla build is
patched with Jan Varga's tree work ? I don't want to disable Multizilla every time
I need to organize my bookmarks. Upgrading to Mozilla 1.7.5 did not help.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041122
MultiZilla/1.7.0.0h
Rubens, can you please add clear steps to reproduce your bug to
http://bugzilla.mozdev.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7732 and I will have a second look at
it. It should work, but maybe, maybe I missed something, thanks.

Following a suggestion from one contributor, I reverted to an earlier version of
Multizilla (1.6.2.1d) which restored normal operation on my installation of
Mozilla 1.7.3 on WinXP·Pro. You may find it works for you without
(any?)significant loss of functionality compared to Multizilla 1.7 which I also
tried but which led to the impairment of drag 'n drop operations.

Why not use Mozilla 1.8a(x)? First of all, that version of Mozilla has some
pretty important security patches, patches that are not part of Mozilla 1.7.
Also I worked two and a halve months on improvements, so guess what, say goodbye
to over 300 bugs :-)
HJ is correct. Just by upgrading Mozilla from 1.7.3 or 1.7.5 to 1.8 alpha5 the
bookmarks drag and drop function works again, without changing Multizilla.

Tried upgrading Mozilla to 1.8a5. Unfortunately experienced significant
degradation of browser performance generally (eg screen corruption on print
preview and other instabilities) severe enough to force me to revert to 1.7.3!
Perhaps there were conlicts with other programs/processes on my system, but
there were no such problems with 1.7.3.

This has nothing to do with MultiZilla, and I don't have that kind of problems
with Mozilla 1.8a(x). However, drag & drop in the bookmarks manager is fixed in
MultiZilla v1.7.0.1a i.e. that compatibility problem is solved in MultiZilla and
not Mozilla!
