It doesn't work with this release of Firefox. It works with previous 0.9.3. The only way to close application is to Force Quit. My system: MacOSX 10.3.5 + most recent security updates Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Firefox 1.0RC1 for MacOSX 2. Press Cmd+Q 3. Actual Results: Nothing! And this is the problem. Expected Results: Quit.

I also had the problem, but since not many other people have had the problem, I tried it with a clean profile and, and the problem disappeared. Next, I copied back my old profile and disabled all of my extensions. After relaunching Firefox, The Quit command still worked, so after a process of elimination, I found that Download Statusbar (0.9.0) was causing the problem. Keeping only that disabled solved the issue.
Ryan Johnson you're a genius, this problem really really annoyed me!, but disabling Download Statusbar extension completely fixed it! Thanks!!
