User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a4) Gecko/20040915
Build Identifier: OS X Suite Nightly from 10/29/04

While surfing, the browser will either hang or unexpectedly quit bringing up the
talkback reporter application. Once the browser unexpectedly quit (not hung or
frozen) halfway through the viewing of a Quicktime movie trailer. Another time
the browser unexpectedly quit (not hung or frozen) while I was reading an
article on a web page (with only text, no flash ads, etc.) and no tabs open.

Another time I clicked on a link and I got the Mac "spinning beach ball". I
launched the Activity Monitor and Mozilla was listed as hung. The suite nightly
from 10/29/04 is Very unstable. Tis nightly also did something to my profile or
OS since reverting to an earlier stable nightly crashed. I had to restart the
computer and replace my profile with a recently backed up copy.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
I apologise for not having a good test case to show this bug other than to tell
you to simply use the 10/29 Mac suite nightly and you will experience this bug
withing 5 to 10+ minutes.

Actual Results:
Browser quits or hangs.

Expected Results:
.

Is this bug related to the fix for the Mac only bug 264235 "context menus broken"?

Several different bugs and regressions cropped up in 1.8. I'm wondering if there
are some undercover guys from competing software enterprises deliberately
contributing bad code for 1.8.

Paul, are you still experiencing this? Could you provide a Talkback ID?
I have quit using nightly builds around October 29th, 2004. This nightly was
particularly naststy and unstable. I believe it was the cause of some
instability in Mac OS (10.3.5). This nightly messed with my Mozilla profile. I
have completely given up on the Mac Suite nightlies since I have heard from
other users how horribly unstable and unusable they are.

For this reason I do not know if this instability is still happening. I would
test a recent nightly, but the last time I did I spent a whole evening working
to restore my computer to a stable condition and get any version of Mozilla to
launch without crashing.

I hope some else can tell you if recent Mac Nightlies run reliably again. I wish
I could honor your request, but since I do not know if the nightlies since Oct
29th have improved in stability I am too afraid of what Mozilla might do to my
OS to risk testing a nightly Mozilla. I am waiting until there are reports that
the Mac nightlies are stable agiain before testing newer Mozilla nightlies.

So I am sticking with the last mozillia nightly I know to be stable 1.8a4
(2004081708).
I've always used the nightlies :)

I'm currently on a 041123 nightly (Mac OS 10.3.6) and I don't feel it's
unstable. It's probably better to close this as wfm, and open a new bug if the
problem occurs again.
