It's not the color per se that is the problem, rather the fact that the diacritic is in a different element than its principal character (or whatever it's called).

This is closely related or maybe a dupe of bug 40882

Does this still happen with the latest trunk builds (with or without Pango use)?

The testcase works for me if you view -> character encoding -> more encodings -> middle eastern -> Hebrew windows 1255
