I've found that if I have an unread message highlighted with the preview pane
visible and messages set to be marked as read after 5 seconds, when I extend
that selection, at the end of those 5 seconds all messages in the selected range
are marked as read.

In other words, after you expand the selection, the timer is not destroyed even
though the preview area is cleared, and the messages are all marked as read.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Find an unread message with preview pane on and messages set to be marked as
read after 5 seconds.
2. Extend the selection range to include one or more other unread messages
3. Wait 5 seconds.

Actual Results:
All unread messages in the selection range are marked as read.

Expected Results:
Nothing should be marked as read because no message is open in the preview area.
Yep, it does that.
