User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041001 Firefox/0.10.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041001 Firefox/0.10.1 Example: When visiting www.mozilla.org, if I search for the word "contrib" on the homepage using Edit --> Find on this page, I get no results. If I click on the link for RC1 (an FTP page) the search bar at the bottom still says "Phrase not found". If I click "find next" the search will then find the word. The "find on this page" feature should, instead, automatically search the new page upon loading. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Visit www.mozilla.org 2.Open "Edit" Menu 3.Select "Find in This Page" 4. Search for contrib 5. The bar will read "Phrase not found" 6. Click on the link for release candidate 1 7. The find bar will still show "Phrase not found" even though contrib appears on this page Actual Results: The find bar will not find the word on the page. Expected Results: The software should automatically search the new page for the word in the find box.
(In reply to comment #0) > Expected Results: > The software should automatically search the new page for the word in the find box. Actually - I was going to post a different request. I think that when you change page the find bar should be closed automatically. If you are searching for text on a page, and then click a link as a result of that search, why woud you be looking for that text again?
One time when I want the "find on this page" feature to work this way was when I was writing an essay on the Scarlet Letter. That story being in the public domain is available, in full text, on the internet. The site I found with the story had the story seperated into chapters. When I was looking for a particular phrase, but did not know the chapter, wanted to use "find on this page" to automatically check each new chapter.
Rarely do I search one page for something. I nearly always search multiple pages (because a site/document goes over multiple pages or I'm searching different sites for the same thing). I therefore find not having this functionality really annoying. If this is considered to take up too much CPU time (I doubt that) then at least make a a positive search change the background of the search box to something different (e.g.: green) from an I-haven't-searched-yet state). We could combine Jason Keirstead's comment #2 request with this bug, by having a checkbox after `Match case' saying `Keep search bar open'. This would be set to not keep it open by default, but, instead, close it when you move to a different tab or URI (to keep Jason happy). One would then check the box when searching multiple pages so that the bar stays open (and automatically searches any page that has focus even to the extent of going to the first occurence of the term). After you close the search bar the setting would go back to the default (of off). However, there could be an about:config pref to set it to default to on when one opens the search bar for those of us who usually search multiple sites (like me).
This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter.
