Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/3.1)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040914 Firefox/0.10

When I start Firefox, the page
https://update.mozilla.org/critical/firefox/2004-10-01.html is displayed.
1- When I click the "Click here" button, a window is displayed prosing to
install 259708.xpi, if I click the "Install now" button, the "Extentions"
window displays "Install success". But at the same time, an "Error window"
displays "Firefox couldn't download the file at ...".
2- If I follow the link
http://www.mozilla.org/press/mozilla-2004-10-01-02.html, the paragraph
"Getting the update" gives the following instructions : "To update Firefox,
open your Tools -> Options window and go to the Advanced page. In the Software
Update section", well, the Options item does not exist in the Tools list, it
is in Edit -> Preferences.
3- If I try to update as root (the #1 and #2 were performed as a normal user),
the same problem as in #1 occurs.
4- If I try to update manually, I get the "FirefoxUpdates" window which
proposes the "Critical Updates (1)". If I click the "update" button, a message
indicates that firefox encountered problems when updating the software ...
The details say "data: Downloading fix (Read only)".

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.see above

As firefox 1.0 is out, your bug could be closed as invalid ?

And please, upgrade to firefox 1.0 :)
mozjf@alussinan.org: i'd rather peoplpe actually figured out what went wrong,
especially if there are details, reporter there's probably an xpinstall.log or
something lying around, if you could attach it, that might be helpful.
no response, old bug, no loger relevant.
