After using firefox successfully for several months, i tried to open it today 
and it did not open.  no window opened.  windows ie opened, however.  i 
unistalled the software, restarted the computer, and downloaded firefox again.  
when i clicked on "finish,"  no browswer window opened.  
  when i hit "control-alt-delete" to see what programs were running, firefox 
was running.  i tried to open firefox through the shortcut and from the "start-
programs" menu but no browswer window would open.  
   i attempted to uninstall the software again, and before i could do so i was 
instructed that i must close firefox before i could uninstall it.  
   i uninstalled and re downloaded the software, same results.  
   i have not installed any new programs in the time when firefox worked and it 
didn't work.  
    it seems that firefox is opening up and running (as seen on the list of 
programs running), but the browswer is not opening.  
    i use zone alarm firewall, but have given access to firefox.  i have had 
zone alarm for several months also, with no ill effects until today.
  please advise

1.  Download firefox
2.  click on firefox web broswer icon
3.  

Actual Results:  
hourglass appears, disappears, no window opens

Expected Results:  
opened web browswer for normal operation.

I have exactly the same problem under Windows 2000. Downloaded Firefox, used it 
for a couple of days, now it starts but no screen. Tried uninstalling it and 
installing again - same problem.

I use Mac OS 10.2.8
I have a similar problem
Original download was successful  but some bookmarks did not open. So I trashed
 Firefox and downloaded again. This time no matter what browser or download site
I use the file will not open.  Sometimes I get a 404 file not found , although
"get info" told me the application was there.  So what now? I would like to use
the browser but I can't get it to function.  I use Mac OS 10.2.8

I only have a problem with updated version. I had no problems with the old
version. I have Windows XP.

identical to problemn described

firefox worked well until i installed the march 13 security update for zone 
alarm, now nothing, and when i click the firefox icon sometimes i get the 
blank window, most times nothing happens. I have granted access to firefox, i 
have uninstalled/re-installed 2x. i have win xp and both versions did well 
until the security update. i have disabled the zone alarm: still no access.

Looks like you'll have to create a new profile. We need more information on the
cause of this bug or steps to reproduce.

this happens to me after i use MSN messenger.  if i accidentaly close the
firefox browser window, it will not open again unless i restart. restart shows
firefox running.

This happens to me too. It's only appeared since 1.0.4 I think. I find that if 
I restart the computer sometimes it will work. 

In running WinXP SP2, and have had no problems up until recently.

Some people have suggested recreating my profile, if I move my profile folder 
to somewhere safe and restart Fx, it creates a new profile folder but the 
window still doesn't appear. Is that a vlid way to recreate a profile? I've 
tried running firefox -p, but all I get is this ugly window?:

I also have the same problem, but noticed in addition to this when I can get it to work, that allowed pop-up windows don't work and the File/New Window doesn't work. Is there something I should do to get this working again?

Same thing is going on here I'm not getting anything but address window and stuff I have on status bar, but it is all translucent
