Noticed this while version 0.8+ (20041101) today. Tracy and I discussed seeing this behavior as well, so I thought it was worth filing a bug. I immediately turn the "Check for New Articles at Startup" pref after I create my RSS account. However, after numerous restarts during my testing, I don't see that my RSS accounts are getting updated consistently after a restart. Moreover, when I restart I don't get anything in the status bar that tells me that it is checking feeds for news items like it does when you do a manual refresh. So at this point I am not convinced that with the pref on I am actually getting any new articles. Despite the fact that livejournal.com is updated quite frequently, I don't ever see that getting updated after a restart. Let me know if others are seeing this during their testing.

I launch tbird from a shell on linux fc2, so I do see a lot of activity there. for example, from the Livejournal feed I've got in my RSS account (a tiny snippet, this is for only one article, so it's much larger in reality): -- FZ -- : Latest LiveJournal.com Posts: casab1ancas: i need new friends (undefined) already stored; ignoring -- FZ -- : validating http://www.livejournal.com/users/casab1ancas/15525.html -- FZ -- : removing invalid items for http://www.livejournal.com/stats/latest-rss.bml however, I agree with Marcia and Tracy: I don't see statusbar activity which is specific the RSS account. the progress meter does paint --but I've got 4 other accounts in my profile, and it's unclear if the progress is for the RSS account or the others. also, upon starting tbird I don't see new RSS articles received. I need to hit Ctrl+T (or the Get Mail button in the toolbar), after which I do see "Checking RSS feeds for new articles" in the statusbar. and hitting that cmd is more likely to grab the new articles, than upon startup.

Marcia, is this working now for you? Perhaps this is related to bug 331401. bug 322793 (perhaps related to bug 333547) bug 293567 (possibly fixed) Bug 368040 (about to close) bug 364766 (specific to auth?) Bug 342516 (about to close) (In reply to comment #1) > ... > I need to hit Ctrl+T (or the Get Mail button in the toolbar), after which I do > see "Checking RSS feeds for new articles" in the statusbar. and hitting that cmd > is more likely to grab the new articles, than upon startup. testing thunderbird v2, it looks to me like it doesn't check "immediately", it takes a minute or two before it checks.
