Finnish Firefox has superfluos not-localized-to-Finnish-users search plugins. As
the added value of having English language search plugins is nill and makes the
product look unpolished -> I propose to remove the non-localized search plugins.

This means every en-US search plugin except Google.

A little bit more obvious reasoning: Dictionary would be beneficial providing
Finnish-Finnish or Finnish-English services. Nothing like that exists.
EBay has no Finnish representation and like Yahoo and Amazon, it is not translated.

You probably need to contact the maintainer of the Finnish translation to
request this.

Sorry, I should've specified I am the maintainer of the translation straight
away. hmm.. I seem to be unable to assign the bug to myself. 

This request is simply issued per instructions by BDS in news group n.p.m.l10n
subject:Status Update - 19-Oct-2004, date: 20.10.2004 00:30 (I only now found
mentioned R. Ebrons contact info).

Rafael, there is http://www.yahoo.fi/, but it's a 404. Can you check that?

Ville, are there alternatives in finland? Like a online bookstore, and if you
don't find anything better, you could create a wikipedia search engine for fi,
see http://mycroft.mozdev.org/quick/wikipedia.html and 
http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etusivu

maybe they have plans, but most likely they are just reserving the address to
prevent misuse. Yahoo worlwide sites: http://world.yahoo.com/

Ok. There of course are bookstores (at least one) that have online search forms
(and possible postal order after registration) and there are also online auction
sites thus making it possible to replace amazon and ebay with Finnish counterparts. 

BUT I do have strong reservations about (selecting on my own and) supporting a
commercial business in this manner... particularly as the said services more or
less suck.

(I don't have same gripes with an FI-wikipedia search)

Q1: Is the only way in which I can get rid of these not-localized search
plugins, to replace them with Finnish ones? (perhaps of lesser quality than
originals)

Q2: Am I correct in understanding it is ok to dump Yahoo and Dictionary.com as
those have no replacements?

Attachment: New Finnish searches

I've created searches for the Finnish "Wikipedia", for a Finnish online auction
"Huuto.net" and for an on-line bookstore "Suomalainen". This would also be the
order of the searches (with Google leading of course).

The last two of those would replace eBay and Amazon; Wikipedia is there just to
add variety. I would simply remove the Dictionary.com and Yahoo searches.

Don't touch Yahoo.  You can change Dictionary.com, Amazon, eBay and add your
changes.

Changes committed and thus resolving bug, but could you Rafael give me a reason
as to why I was not allowed to remove yahoo?

It really is of no use to a person who's only language is Finnish (which is the
target audience of this localization).
