What extensions do you have installed, and do you still see the same behavior in Safe Mode or in a new profile without any extensions?

(In reply to comment #1) > What extensions do you have installed, and do you still see the same behavior in > Safe Mode or in a new profile without any extensions? As stated before, ran on a virgin system - no previous FF, no extensions - and got same problem.

See bug 268145 for a reproducible prodedure that will always create the problem, starting with a virgin install of firefox. The key to reproducing the problem is to start firefox with multiple tabs open: 1. Set up the home page as http://www.google.com/|http://www.google.com 2. Do 2 google searches such as test1 and test2 3. Create 2 usernames and passwords for a site - I've used both www.mail.com and news.earthlink.net 4. Restart firefox 5. Go the second tab 6. Click in the google search string. No drop down is shown. 7. Still in the second window, go to news.earthlink.net 8. Click in the email address field. No drop down is shown.

I have not tried this problem but this additional info MAY cast some light on the issue. I found that, in Tbird 1.0.6, if one modifies an address in the address book, it does NOT become effective until one exists Tbird and comes back in ?!?!? (This is a reported bug.) Tbird still uses the old address. The auto complete data might not be being updated between tabs. I also smell that some of the bugs I have experienced are HW related. For example, I have experienced weird behavior in machines with "marginal" physical RAM, like 64 MB RAM. I would encourage all submitters to always mention processor, RAM, operating system, and system load (other applications running).

I've a similar problem. I've set google as my homepage. When I load firefox for the first time and start typing a word in the main google form, up will pop a list of words I've previously typed. No Problem. However if I middle click the homepage button, although google will open in a new tab and the focus will appear to be in the main form, when I start typing a word that I've previously typed, no drop down menu will appear, i.e autocomplete won't work. If I click anywhere if the page first and then click back into the form, autofill will start working again. Reloading the tab will also make the problem go away. Never use to have this problem with firefox 1.07 or below. Ever since version 1.5 though, I've noticed the same problem.

I can confirm this as an issue with a middle click on bookmark buttons (not from the bookmarks menu, but as a shortcut bar).

WFM based on previous comments. Should be working, if you can reproduce on a Firefox 3 build please reopen with a testcase.
