When viewing a page which requires a usename and password, the Master Password Prompt appears several times at once! Well, to be more precise, you need to move your mouse out of the prompt, that means the prompt has to lose the focus. Everytime the prompt lose the focus, a new prompt appears. The only way to close these prompts is to give the correct password in the last prompt and close all other prompts one by one in the descendant order. Giving the correct password stops the opening of new prompts. Screenshot coming...

this is a real annoying problem. I had up to 10 prompts open at the same time before finding how to close them all!

What window manager, themes, and what distro and version, etc.? We can't reproduce. We'll certainly need more specicific information before we can even begin to diagnose this. Also, and equally important, what version of Firefox are you using?

Using KDE 3.2.0 on Mandrake Linux 10.0 Official. This appears on both FF 1.0 RC1 (french version) and RC2 (english version). Maybe this can help: The focus follows the mouse (no need to click to get the focus). Reproducable: Always!!

Are you using extensions that require password data ( ref: bug 273296 )

(In reply to comment #5) > Are you using extensions that require password data ( ref: bug 273296 ) > No. I only installed the official distribution. Still present with FF 1.0 final.
I'm not able to reproduce this bug in Novell Linux Desktop in GNOME environment. Is this specific to KDE ?

(In reply to comment #7) > Is this specific to KDE ? Maybe?! I will later this week install Mandrake Linux 10.1 Official and see if the problem disappears or not. I will add a comment here as soon as I have upgraded. Btw, I'm surprised that there are no dupes...

Discovered by my girlfriend while logging into eBay using my software-protected copy of Firefox without the master password having been entered since startup.

The problem was still present when installing Mandrake Linux 10.1 Official, but now appears only randomly (and seldom) with Firefox 1.0.1 -> decreasing the severity to normal. I have no good testcase in order to reproduce this.

This still occurs for me. It might be KDE related (I run SUSE 10.0 using KDE). I do not have a good testcase for it either. I use the GMail Notifier extension, which makes Firefox ask for the master password at startup. Occasionally I get multiple dialogs. It can have something to do with it loosing focus I think.

I seem to have a testcase. I'm not sure the "secure website" step is required, but at least I can reproduce the problem in this case. allan, tell me if this testcase works for you: 1. Set the Master Password 2. Go to a secure website (https://) where Firefox asks you to accept the certificate. Say "yes" 3. Enter your login and password and tell Firefox to remember your login 4. Log out and restart your browser 5. Repeat steps 2-4 so that you have at least two different login names for that website 6. Make sure you have restarted your browser and go to the same website as above 7. Firefox will ask you if you want to accept the certificate, say "yes" 8. As there are several known logins for this website, Firefox won't automatically fill the form for you. So enter one of the known login name 9. Firefox will now ask you for the Master Password... with at least two popups! Maybe it's enough to have at least two different logins for the same website in order to reproduce the bug; I don't know as I didn't try.

This is definitely not a dupe of bug 381164 and is not fixed. It still happens with the beta1 or the latest minefield nightly build. To reproduce this bug you should: 1. Install the gmail-notifier extension 2. enter your login data and set auto login to true 3. open up multiple websites with http auth in multiple tabs 4. set homepage to open tabs from last session 5. restart Firefox 6. in case of OS X let Firefox open in background!! 7. wait a couple of time (20 seconds should be enough) 8. Use Cmd+Tab to switch to Firefox 9. Move away the top Master Password dialog Result: Several other ones are placed under each other. Depends on how many tabs with http auth or other login information are open. This is an issue which also happens for the latest 1.8.1 branch builds.

Same issue as bug 369963, so duping/consolidating there since that bug has a bit less noise (though it's a tossup) and I already added some stack info.
