User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040910 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040910 When I start Mozilla at work, my Navigator and Mail opens. Everything works fine. I POP mail from the server. On Friday I closed my Mail window thinking that Mozilla would stop popping mail from the server. This is not the case. When I use my webmail from home, I can see new mails disappearing after a few minutes from the server. When I check Mozilla in work on Monday, the mails are there. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Mozilla (Navigator and Mail (POP)) 2. Close Mail Actual Results: Mozilla continues to pop new mail as long as the Navigator remains open Expected Results: Stop popping mail if the Mail window is closed

This bug is asking the opposite of bug 71105. I think David's right that this is a dupe, but it's a hard dupe to find.
shortly after this was filed I tried to find it, but gave up after about 30 minutes without success
Not sure what to make of these comments. However, I would add that it never occured to me that closing my email client would do anything other than stop downloading my mail. This follows "The principle of least suprise".
(In reply to comment #3) > Not sure what to make of these comments. You can look for the earlier report and, if you find it, dupe this bug to it. Other than that, for the most part those comments aren't directed at you, they're directed at people who might be looking into this bug. > This follows "The principle of least suprise". Clearly, this point is arguable -- the people who want bug 71105 fixed want the mail checking activated even before they've opened the mail window. They don't view Mozilla as two separate programs. Perhaps that insight requires a certain level of geekiness to appreciate. The easiest way to get the results you're after is to run Firefox and Thunderbird, rather than Mozilla.
> The easiest way to get the results you're after is to run Firefox and > Thunderbird, rather than Mozilla. I don't give up that easily :-) I propose two improvements that would solve this problem and not conflict with bug 71105 1) Save the browser Tabs on close (like Opera). This is part of my original reason for trying to shutdown only the mail client. 2) If bug 71105 is fixed, then users could choose whether or not they want that feature. For example, the "Check for new messages at startup" option could also be available in "Edit->Preferences..." as well as under "POP Mail Account->Server Settings" Either of these would be satisfactory.
