Select multiple messages in IMAP folder using Shift-click, Ctrl-click or Ctrl-A
and try to either drag and drop them to a local folder, or use the right-click
context menu Copy To or Move To > Local folders > Folder and nothing happens.
No messages move or copy. If you select a single message then it moves or
copies Ok but selecting anything from 2 to hundreds and nothing happens.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open IMAP folder (message headers download)
2. Select multiple messages using Shift-click or Ctrl-click or Ctrl-A
3. Copy To or Move To > Local folders > Folder, or try drag and drop
Nothing happens.
Actual Results:
Nothing. No messages are moved or copied. No error message is produced.
(note, Copy and Move work just fine with single messages)

Expected Results:
Messages should be copied or moved to the designated local folder.
The source IMAP folder is a sub folder on an Exchange 5.5 server
what version of thunderbird are you using?

Can you attach an imap protocol log of an attempt to copy two messages?

i reproduced this behaviour with thunderbird 0.8 and also with 0.9. see imap
logfile. tried to copy from imap folder to local.

maybe same problem as bug 183766?

I tried this on .9 windows and mac builds and didn't have a problem. I'll keep
trying. It looks like you clicked on a message to read it, and then extended the
selection to the next message, and then did a copy of the two messages...maybe
there's some problem because the first message ends up getting fetched from the
memory cache (or the offline store? do you have the folder in question
configured for offline use?)
if I can reproduce this, it would block 1.0

I am using Thunderbird 0.9 build 20041103 on Windows XP. I can't find any logs
specific to IMAP on the Exchange 5.5 server, only the Windows Event Log and
this doesn't show anything related to the transactions of the session after the
initial login. I can't find anywhere in Thunderbird to turn logging on locally.
The problem does not effect top level folders like the Inbox but only seems to
happen in sub-folders.

>(or the offline store? do you have the folder in question
> configured for offline use?)

yes, the folder is configured for offline use.
workaround:

1. mark imap-folder as offline & download messages
2. exit thunderbird
3. open thunderbird profile manager & start thunderbird in offline mode
4. copy imap-messages to local folders
this works for me...I can't think what else to try. Does it matter how large the
messages are?
No, size is not a factor. The problem seems to effect multiple message move or
copy to Local Folders of any messages in folders other than the Inbox. It
doesn't make any difference whether you have read the messages or not (which I
presume ought to bring the whole of the messages into the local cache of the
remote folder in addition to just the headers). Could it be the Microsoft IMAP
implementation in Exchange 5.5 is causing this, or does Thunderbird treat other
folders in any way differently from the Inbox?
This is also a problem on Mac OSX 10.3.4 Using Thunderbird .9. Cannot move or
copy multiple messages at a time.
Hardware: Powerbook G4 1.33Ghz, 768 MB RAM, OSX 10.3.4.

This is only affecting the Powerbook, we also have two PowerMacs that can move
back and forth fine.

On a side note as well. Cannot move a message from a local folder back to the
IMAP server. Get "Invalid Headers" error message from the IMAP server (Cyrus).

looking at your log again, it looks to me like we don't actually do anything on
the server with your url:

imap://thomas%2Bnoedwuerkli%2Ech@server4.cyon.ch:993/fetch%3EUID%3E/Sent-10-2004%3E269:270:
 = currentUrl

and then we go straight into IDLE...not sure why that would be. Even if you had
the messages in the offline cache, in the case of copying multiple messages,
we'd still get them from the server...

Are all your folders configured for offline use, including sub-folders of the
inbox?
your user name is thomas+noedwuerkli.ch ? I wonder if that's causing us some
problem when parsing that url...
moving to 1.1 - I could never reproduce this.

> moving to 1.1 - I could never reproduce this.

I noticed the same behaviour on Thunderbird .8, .9 and 1.0, running on XP
when multiple messages are selected by whatever means on a IMAP folder, one
cannot move nor copy them.

I ca reprduce this at any time on 2 different IMAP servers, one is a Oracle one,
the other one seems to be a vanilla linux (my free.fr account)

On the other hand, selecting multiple messages on my Local Folder and copying
them **TO** the IMAP works fine.

Netscape 7.2 does not show this behaviour, on neither servers
I first experienced this bug with mozilla mail 1.7.3 (french local) and tried
the new release 1.7.5 (english us initial) : the bug is NOT reproduced.
( I did not have this bug with previous releases of mozilla before 1.7.3 )
I am very confused,
recently I had to reinstall Windows XP (once again), so I wanted to install
Mozilla 1.7.5 (us) without being able to make it run, enven the splash screen
did'nt splash. But, the install did not complain.
I could install sucessfully a 1.7.3 (fr localized) sucesfully
I did uninstalled, and reinstalled twice, the one and the other without any change.
More I tested this present bug with this 1.7.3 (that I could see before
reinstalling XP), and... I can't reproduce it !! it does move a whole bunch of
messages from imap folders to local ones.
I think that there could arise silently some bad things when
installing/unistalling Mozilla that could cause some bugs, but how can we know
that the install is ok ? and if not, where is the problem ?
I can confirm this bug for Thunderbird 1.0 (20041206, german language) on Linux
(SuSE 9.2 i386). Reproducible just as described. I have an IMAP account at the
provider Web.de. It used to work fine with Mozilla Mail 1.7 on the same account.
Can you try generating an imap protocol log with tomorrow's nightly trunk
thunderbird build?

http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#imap

I've added some more logging to help diagnose this.
please try tomorrow's trunk thunderbird build
