User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041001 Firefox/0.10.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20041001 Firefox/0.10.1 in this page mozilla installs a XPI, but when i went with firefox it gives the plugin finder and fails to find any plugin and i couldnt find any way to install it the plugin seens to load in the right lower corner i found this javascript, maybe it helps: http://www.charamel.com/demo/plugin/update_ns.js Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.go to the site with mozilla, it will install the xpi for the plugin 2.go to the site with firefox, it will show the plugin finder and fail to find any Actual Results: dont install anything Expected Results: install the xpi OR find and install the plugin also, it should show somehere the mime type for the plugin, it would help finding the plugin name
I have the same problem with all extensions. I tested on https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&version=1.0&os=Windows&numpg=50&id=302
It seems that the problem is the TBE extension. When I disabled it firefox could install extensions.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. The latest beta releases can be obtained from: Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/ Thunderbird: http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/releases/1.5beta1.html Seamonkey: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/

(In reply to comment #5) > tested again the url with the latest 1.0.7 and still dont work... > i dont have mozilla suit anymore, but i assume that it still works > The latest version is Firefox 1.5 beta 2 - please test with that one.

already tested at that in 1.5beta2, but only in linux... and i suspect that this only works in windows... but i manage to upgrade a windows firefox to 1.5beta2 and still dont work, it doesnt find any valid plugin the mime type of the plugin is "application/x-chactor-3.0.6" by the way
Can't find the plugin listed at: http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/windows-all.html Also, turning off the popup plocker brings up a popup with the message: CharActor overlay mode! For this application the overlay mode of the CharActor plugin is required. Unfortunately this overlay mode is not supported by your browser. The overlay mode of the CharActor plugin runs on following platforms: * Windows 98, NT, Me, 2000, XP * Internet Explorer Version 5.5 and higher So it looks like this is IE only. But for me, I don't get anything to install in IE either. I get a popup telling me it will install an ActiveX control, then nothing happens. Based on all of this, I think this is a TE bug about their plugin. I will update the summary and component, and confirm.

i dont know about now beacause i dont have mozilla suit installed now, but at the time of the bug submit mozilla could installl a plugin for it in windows (also IE) maybe the IE problem is that my url is too specific, maybe it need also other frames? IIRC mozilla suit only needed this frame.

IIRC mozilla suit only needed this frame. My info is basically what the site says, so whether there has been a difference in the past I don't know. What is clear, though, is that they don't support FF (or indeed anything other than IE on Windows). So this is a problem at their end, not Mozilla's.
