In this case in the compose window, the "Option->Format" entry in the menu is missing. The same is present instead if the "compose mail in HTML format" is enabled. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Make sure the "compose mail in HTML format" checkbox is NOT checked (in the "account settings" under "composing and addressing" 2. Open a new compose message window 3. Click in the menu: Option Actual Results: The entry Format->Auto-detect/Plain Text/RichText (HTML only)/Plain and Rich(HTML) text is missing. Expected Results: In the Option Menu there should be the entry Format->Auto-detect...

This is not a bug. The menu you are describing only applies to mail that is being composed in HTML; if you are composing as plain text, that menu has no meaning. The option set by that menu controls how an HTML-composed message is handled. If what you really want is a means to switch to HTML composition after starting plain-text composition, that's bug 140800.
