are you running a virus checker and getting virus e-mail? some virus checkers will simply delete your inbox....
Whiteboard: DUPEME
I opened the email directory with Netscape 4.79 and the Inbox content was back. Returned to Mozilla 1.73 and Inbox was once again showing the missing old\ files ?
Close Mozilla, and try to delete all the *.msf index files in your mail subfolder in your Mozilla profile. Does this help?

*** Bug 277814 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Has this been looked at? It's happening to me "out of the blue", no system changes. I've been using Tbird for a while now. All of the sudden, my inbox was wiped out and it continues to happen. NO clue why. I got mails today and they were in my inbox. We ate dinner and now, they're gone. View>>Messages is set to All but nothing shows. In the ....\Thunderbird\Profiles\ijs25zye.default\Mail directory there are what look like three mail subdirectories: mail.optonline.net mail.optonline-1.net mail.optonline-2.net In each of those there are Inbox and Inbox.msf files (and Drafts, Trash, Sent, etc) ok, so now that I've found it how do I get tbird to recognize that it's my inbox and actually has stuff in it? Also, any idea what could be removing mail from my inbox and "hiding" it? If I highlight the inbox in Tbird and do a view/messages/all it shows me nothing. If I change it to view/messages/last 5 days or recent it will show me some of the messages. It just won't show anything with the "all" setting?

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter.
