I noticed the junk mail controls in Mozilla Thunderbird 0.9 do not apply in newsgroups. This is understandable, as generally you cannot delete newsgroup postings. However, an equivalent to moving junk to another folder for newsgroups would be to simply hide messages marked as junk. With CSS, this is easy to do. This would have a profound effect in reading mozilla.org newsgroups such as n.p.m.documentation (which has probably more junk mail than actual threads). It would be a very nice enhancement to have junk mail controls working on newsgroups.

It's easy to do once the Junk status is stored for a message. Currently, that's not done for news messages. > This would have a profound effect in reading mozilla.org newsgroups such as > n.p.m.documentation (which has probably more junk mail than actual threads). > It would be a very nice enhancement to have junk mail controls working on > newsgroups. We certainly need some way of filtering spam in newsgroups. In fact, I was just about to file an enhancement request when I came across this one.

So there is still (after years now) no solution for that ? then ill REQUEST FOR ENHANCEMENT (RFE) that feature. i guess a local solution could be setting a local flag (is spam) on each newsgroup-posting that has been identified as spam. therefor it would be easy to "filter out" those postings from the posting-Listing within the thunderbird. so..if the spamfilter/spamdetector itself can handle news-postings it should not be such a big deal to implement it for an experienced programmer.
I like this idea, but would give the user the full set of choices about what gets done to the "junk" messages -- the same as with filters. (One way to achieve this result would be to have the adaptive filter merely set the junk flag -- then let the user write a filter of the form "if message is marked as junk, then [do this].")
