i first attempted to open http://hockey1.com in Firefox.  A "browser needs
additional plug-ins for this page" message appeared, but I couldn't click that
button, or any other.  Had to shut down the unresponsive program.  The website
opened without any problems in IE6 and Mozilla.

Please download 1.0 and retest. Also, please provide what Java version you are
using. 
that fixed it... I tried the page again before the download, as I had just 
updated the program a few days ago- page still locked the browser with a 
"need plug-in" tab.  After the download, page loaded just fine.  Java 2 SE 
v1.4.2_01
