User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040707 Firefox/0.9.2 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040707 Firefox/0.9.2 I tried to upgrade to FireFox 1.0, but my new installation couldn't access any network addresses. (HTML pages from the local file system were displayed correctly). Internet sites, including those on the local network, were inaccessible. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Run Windows NT 4.0 Server with service pack 6. Possible conflict: I am using a firewall called ZoneAlarm (version 5.1.033.000) which may be blocking network connections. When an unrecognised application first tries to access the network, ZoneAlarm pops up a window asking whether or not to allow access. It didn't do this for FireFox 1.0, I assume it remembered my settings for FireFox 0.9.2. Actual Results: No network access. Expected Results: It should have accessed the network. I have reinstalled FireFox 0.9.2, which works properly.
firefox 1.0 is possible not recognized by Zonealarm yet, whereas your other program was. I guess, they only allow certain versions of a program to go out, to avoid that i run my virus as firefox.exe or something like that. Can you disable ZoneAlarm and try again?
-> wfm Please configure your firewall correctly. (you can try to remove the FF entry and let it ask again)

Works fine for me using ZoneAlarm.
Status: RESOLVED → VERIFIED
I have upgraded my firewall, reinstalled FireFox 1.0 and it seems to work fine now. Sorry if I wasted your time.
This would not be a "waste of time" if it meant that the necessary information were either added to (say) http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/releases/ or some similar windows page that covered installation/upgrading. A polite note to the authors of firewall might advise them that their product could be made upgrade aware. http://www.computergripes.com/ZoneAlarm.html I don't know all that much abut windows, but not many people are having problems using Zonealarm with upgraded internet applications.
