User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-DE; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041108 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-DE; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041108 Firefox/1.0 I had Firefox 1.0RC2 on my computer. I uninstalled 1.0RC2. I installed 1.0 (de-DE). Then I switched to my normal non-admin user account. Now, I get the following error message instead of the normal Firefox screen every time I start Firefox 1.0: title="&mainWindow.title;" ---------------^ keycode="&openHelp.commandkey;"/> ---------------------^ <key id="key_inspectPage" key="&inspectorTaskCmd.commandkey;" modifiers="accel, shift" command="Tasks:InspectPage"/> -----------------------------------^ Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Firefox Actual Results: An error message appears: title="&mainWindow.title;" ---------------^ keycode="&openHelp.commandkey;"/> ---------------------^ <key id="key_inspectPage" key="&inspectorTaskCmd.commandkey;" modifiers="accel, shift" command="Tasks:InspectPage"/> -----------------------------------^ Expected Results: Firefox should load normally and show me a browser window If I create a new profile and use this to start Firefox, then problem disappears.
By the looks of it, i think it's a messed up profile, properly because of extensions that are not compatible with your new Firefox [or perhaps broken internationalization?] Not much we can do about it now other then recommending to create a new profile [which you already did] and try to salvage parts from your old profile [bookmarks etc]. But can you let us know if you had any extensions etc?

when you upgraded, did you choose to not install the developer tools (DOM Inspector)? it may be the case that that is causing the problem.

Thank you for your fast reply. I salvaged the valuable parts. When I installed Firefox 1.0, the build language changed: Previously I was using en-US builds. Now I am using de-DE builds. That is, the old profil was created by an english build. Regarding comment #2: Actually it was the other way round: I had the "DOM Inspector" extension *not* installed with Firefox 1.0RC2. But I installed the extension with version 1.0. The only properly installed (and active) extension was Adblock. From earlier Firefox versions there were some left-overs from deinstalled or disabled extensions and themes: - language pack de-DE - bluemonkey_09.jar - phoenity_1.3.jar - Noia2_Full_2.77.jar - qute_2.1.3.jar - Noia2_lite_2.79.jar - industrial.jar - ScribbliesBrite-0_4.jar (have fun with it) If it helps you I can attach chrome.rdf and extensions.rdf. Or close the "bug". Suggestion: I'd be nice if Firefox failed gracefully. Say that there is a problem with the profile and ask the user whether he wants to have his valuable parts be copied to a new profile.

I just did an upgrade and the same thing happened. I moved the profile to another directory with a different name. Uninstalled through control panel. Reinstalled the following:firefox nightly build 12/07.04 Win32 installer. clean profile. I got the same title = main window. I have this firefox (9.1+ installed elsewhere and it works fine.) using the new firefox 1.0 profile. I shall now downlaod the 1.0 release and see what happens. < Mmmmmmmmm the standard firefox 1.0 installed perfectly. Maybe it is the Dec 7th nightly build.
I installed: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20041221 Firefox/1.0+. The problem has disappeared -> worksforme.

(In reply to comment #6) > Marc, does it work for you now as well? I installed the trunk build 2004-12-21-07: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20041221 Firefox/1.0+ With this build I can start Firefox using the old profile without having the reported problem. Summary: - 1.0RC2 en-US: works - 1.0 (release) de-DE: does not work - 1.0+ (trunk build 2004-12-21-07) en-US: works So, it remains to be seen whether a localized build will work.
