(In reply to comment #1) > could this be a dup of bug 268560? I do not think so. This update icon is remove after the Update check. New info: the update available icon is only displayed during the "My extensions and themes" update check. The "Firefox" update check does not display the updates available icon.

I confirm this in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; fr-FR; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3 but this works in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050424 Firefox/1.0+ . I am marking this as fixed. Reopen if you oncounter it again.

This is still visible here (Gecko/20050426 Firefox/1.0+) This icon is flashed a bit faster though. Reopening bug (please confirm with other users before marking fixed, it will prevent bug from getting re-opened/fixed.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050504 Firefox/1.0+ The "Check for Updates" option now found in the tools menu still renders the blue icon, and I'd like to note that cancelling the update in the middle of its process leaves the icon painted there until a full update check is done. If this bug is fixed, not only will it prevent unnecessary icons from being created, but it will also keep unnecessary icons from unwantingly remaining painted. Can anyone on Linux confirm if this happens on Linux? And whoever has the privileges, please set Version->Trunk
