Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 I cannot add engines to my search toolbar. I thought it might have been a problem with the Gentoo ebuild, but I installed version 1.0 from the official installer, and it still doesn't work. I can select "Add Engines..." from the menu. I select the engine I want (I've tried several, including the Gentoo package search and Wikipedia), and it gives me the confirmation button, but the engine isn't added to the drop-down, as I assume it should be. It still doesn't appear after restart firefox. I've had this problem with every version of firefox since this feature was added. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select the search toolbar dropdown 2. Select Add Engines... 3. Select (for example) the Wikipedia search engine link 4. Select OK at the confirmation 5. Restart firefox Actual Results: Nothing Expected Results: It should have shown Wikipedia in the search bar.

The problem is also reproducible with this version: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041111 Firefox/1.0 As packaged in Fedora Core 3

To add engines, you need to have write permissions for the program installation directory, until bug 123315 is fixed. If you don't have write permissions for that directory, please mark this a dupe of bug 123315.

Further, in the installation directory the e. g. leo.src and leo.png are present in (...)/searchplugins/ which means that the direcory has writing permission. in the home/.mozilla/firefox/... directory there isn't any searchplungin. The same problem existed in earlier versions of firefox. I' m using gentoo too, btw.

I have encountered this twice as well, trying to install IMDB and now WikiPedia, with the same behavior as described below. It seems to have finally worked (the site was added), but after two full restarts of Firefox. Note that this is in the Windows build, not Linux. No Javascript errors appeared in the console when I tried to add the site. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
