Check inbox 1, Group by Sort 3. Check inbox 2, Group by Sort 4. Wait a while 5. Check inbox 1. Actual Results: The Group labels are now forien characters. Same thing for me. Look at this thread : http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=175960 version 1.0RC1 (20041201)
Same problem, different way to reproduce: Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Thunderbird 2. Create a new message using the "Write" button 3. Close the main application window (which is showing the Inbox) 4. The mail message window "Compose: (subject)" is still open. Go to "Tools" and select "Mail & Newsgroups Ctrl+1" 5. The main application window appears again Actual Results: The group labels show strange characters. Expected Results: Group labels should show text like "Yesterday", "Last Week", ... In most cases Thunberbird then crashes within a short time / when trying to continue working in TB. This has been tested and confirmed on two different systems. Both running Windows XP SP2 Thunderbird 1.0.2 EN-US Thunderbird 1.0 GERMAN
same here mac OS X 10.3.9

I also get Chinese characters in group headings on mac os X thunderbird
I am using 10.4.4 and i have the same behavior. Same problem (funny characters - probably kanji/chinese) with group titles, seems to occur after mac went to sleep/after dates have changed, though. Restarting TB brings the group titles back to normal. OS 10.4.5, German langauge version, TB 1.5 (German)
me too, Thunderbird version 1.5 (20051201) Mac OS 10.3.7

I have the same Problem with these group-by bar. Using TB 1.5 under WinXP SP2 and use these extensions: enigmail, quote colors, quote collapse, AccountEx, MBoxImport, Remove Duplicate Messages, header scroll extension, minimize to tray, change quote and reply format, contact sidebar. And I have a sort by date, group-by-sort sorting.
I'm seeing a variation of this where I get an actual message subject in place of the "Today" label, instead of "garbage" characters. Would this be the same or similar issue or should I file a new bug report? I'll generate a screenshot when I can. I've been experiencing this using TB 1.5 on Linux. Peace...
I solved this problem by removing the enigmail plugin, I no longer have any problems with grouping. Does everyone use enigmail that has this problem?
(In reply to comment #14) > I solved this problem by removing the enigmail plugin, I no longer have any > problems with grouping. > > Does everyone use enigmail that has this problem? > Do you use MacOS X or Windows? I use windows and have this problem and use also enigmail. But in the last weeks the problem doesn´t appear anymore. There was no newer enigmail version (iirc), but I installed a new GnuPG version. But I think this doesn´t solve the problem.
Using Mac OS X, I haven't tried on Windows. Removing Enigmail definitely seems to have stopped the garbage in the group titles.
Yes, I do use Enigmail too.
Still problems with (random chinese characters) in groupings with Mac OS X version 1.5.0.2 (20060308). No Enigmail plugin so that's not the problem.
I have this problem on OS X (10.4.6) with Thunderbird version 1.5.0.2 (20060308). I don't have Enigmail installed. Sometimes the group labels disappear, and sometimes I get Kanji-looking characters.

I just turned grouping back on and see no problems. I haven't noticed since I've turned it off for over a year now and forgot about that option. :) Using Thunderbird version 2.0.0.12 on mac os x 10.5 (and have the Enigmail add-on).
