User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

When selecting Downloads, Extensions, Themes or Java Script Console under Tools
menu, the selected screen remains open only a fraction of a second. The same
occurs under Help Menu when selecting Help Contents or For IE Users.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Select menu item (Tools or Help)
2.Select (Downloads, Extensions,Themes or Java Script Console) from Tools menu;
or select (Help Contents or For IE Users) from Help menu.

Actual Results:
Selected window opens for fraction of second then automatically closes.

Expected Results:
Selected window should have remained open and useable.
That sounds a lot like an extension trying to do single-window mode and failing:
do you see the same behavior when you start Firefox in Safe Mode (from the Start
Menu) or disable all extensions?
Similar problem but items in dropdown menus under Tools "vanish" behind the
browser window. They are there, just hidden. Close the Firefox browser and
there they are. I do not have the problem in HELP.

This is mostly a nuisance. These windows do not open within Firefox. In any
case, I expect to see the selected item when clicked instead of having it hide
behind the browser window.

Windows 2000 Pro; Firefox version 1.0.6

In Safe Mode, these windows appear behind the browser window:

Tools-
Downloads
Extensions (all disabled)
Themes (disabled)
JavaScript Console
Page Info

In standard mode, these windows appear behind the browser window:

Tools-
Downloads
Adblock Preferences
Session Saver Preferences
Extensions
Themes
Tweak Network Settings
JavaScript Console
Page Info

A noticed that a similar problem exists in Thunderbird E-mail (Tools); version
1.0 I am using.

Hope this helps.

Reporter, can you still see the problem on recent builds (<http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/> on Windows 2000 or any other supported OS and <http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla1.8/> on those and/or Win98)?
Thanks.

Also, if you're able to try this, please try with a clean profile. Closing as WFM in the mean time, since it works for me using Firefox 2.0.0.6 on Windows Vista.
