Firefox FAQ about installing Java is highly outdated. It mentions the unofficial
installer from Seb, talks about Java 1.4, and does not mention the new Plugin

We need to figure out a better way of dealing with support stuff.

This is linked from mozilla.com's support page, so we should fix this ASAP, and.

Questions:
What version of Java do we support in 1.5?
Who knows enough about current version of Java supported to update this .org page?
How critical is this bug WRT end users installing current versions of Java (in other words, who does this bug most impact -- developers or end users)?
I'm going to try address some old open www.mozilla.org/support/* bugs. Assigning this bug to me.

In some cases, JRE versions are mentioned as minimum requirements; so I don't those particular ones should be changed. The text for download links should not mention any version number. Just say "...install the latest version..."

We should just get rid of the mention of Seb's installers.

Firefox releases are not available in ZIPs anymore; so the paragraph addressing ZIP installs can be nuked as well.

"Firefox is compiled with gcc 3.2.3..." I'm not a Linux user; so I don't know how relevant that info is, or if it needs updating.

I guess the mentions of file paths (which include version numbers) will have to be updated with every JRE release. :-(

Bug 197813 is fixed, and the java.com page points Mac users to <http://www.apple.com/java/>; so I guess that just needs an update, telling users where to get it.

I'm also adding Hendikins to the CC list on this bug. See what he has to say.

I'll definitely need confirmation of this stuff from Linux and Mac users.
Attachment #250657 - Flags: review?
Two weeks with no replies to comment 5, and one week with no-one reviewing attachment 250657 [details] [diff] [review]? Me thinks no-one wants to reacquaint themselves with this bug. :-)

I'll check in the patch, and if there are any issues, people can file new bugs.
