RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 40106

People

(Reporter: mozillaBugzilla, Unassigned)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

Firefox should incorporate the option/ability to split files up when they are
downloaded. Instead of having people use 3rd party download managers (eg. DAP,
FlashGet, Free Download Manager, GetRight, Internet Download Accelerator,
LeechGet, Net Transport, ReGet, or Download Master, just to name a few) and
having to deal with find and update extensions that do not always work with fire
fox, fire fox should have included the file splitting code. I don't know if its
a lotta work (it probably is) but there's probably open source implementations
of such programs out there so they could be ported/copied/used to give fire fox
this support

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.open the download manager
2.open a big download
3.grit your teeth

Actual Results:
i realized that firefox needed a download manager

Expected Results:
someone could have included this technology (and clearly upsurped ie, opera and
the rest...)
Can I vote against this?

Firefox should have one "Save" and one "Save As" operation.

If you want anything else then you should (as the reporter noted)
be using the download manager of your choice.

Alternatively, it might be possible to have an extension do
any post-processing that you want. It is possible that
konqeror has the behaviour that you are looking for - opening
rpms in a GUI package installer by default, for example.

In the specific case why not try the (open source) wget, curl
or torrent for downloads.

In short, Firefox is a browser and should be optimised for browsing.
