RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 202497

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040804 Netscape/7.2 (ax)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040804 Netscape/7.2 (ax)

Whenever I click on a mailto link, it opens Outlook Express, instead of my
default mail client, Netscape 7.2.

I went to my control panel> Add or Remove Programs>Set Program Access &
Defaults> Custom... and chose Netscape as my default mail client. But this
doesn't fix the problem. In Firefox, when I click "new message" or click on a
mailto hyperlink, Outlook Express opens instead of my default mail client.

But then I fixed it by going to "Folder options", and changed the application
that opens the file type: "URL:mailto protocol" to:

"C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\netscp.exe" -compose "%1"

And now Firefox opens a Netscape mail composition window successfully!

This is probably a Netscape bug (and I've heard that it's true for Mozilla 1.7
too). Netscape should probably reset the file type: "URL:mailto protocol", but
since this is a known bug, shouldn't Firefox have an option within the browser
to set which mail client you wish to use as your mail client when using Firefox,
instead of relying on the default mail client? Or at the very least, reset the
mailto document type?

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.In firefox, click on a mailto hyperlin, or click CTRL+M
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Depending on your setup, a non-default mail client may open

Expected Results:
A composition window should open from your default mail client
