Will not open Media player to view news video clips from website.  Site shows
the following: To use MSN Video, you need to install some free software. To
download the required software, click each link below, and then follow the
on-screen instructions.

Step 1: Download Microsoft© Internet Explorer 6 for free
Step 2: Download Microsoft Windows Media© Player for free

It works fine on IE 6.0

I have the following version of Firefox browser:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

I have the following version of Windows XP:

Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 : Service Pack 2)


I encounter the same problem for example go to

www.msnbc.msn.com and then click on Video and then click on the clip you want to
play then you will get POP UP Window that says the following:

To use MSN Video, you need to install some free software. To download the
required software, click each link below, and then follow the on-screen
instructions.

Step 1: Download Microsoft© Internet Explorer 6 for free
Step 2: Download Microsoft Windows Media© Player for free
Step 3: Start MSN Video   

but I already have Windows Media Player, Real Player, and Quick Player etc.,. to
play any video.

Try this,
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/version64/plugin.aspx

and download and execute the file. It will install windows media player for
firefox.

Rich, is this still a problem with the latest Firefox release for you? MSN seems to be using a Flash-based video player now and this works OK for me in Firefox (but not in Camino, strangely).

I'm pretty sure this was a dupe of bug 258697.
