User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10.1 I use Thunderbird 0.9 (20041103). If you're subscribed to a mailing list and receiving e-mails in digest format (as attachments), it often happens that one digest contains 30 attachments or more (e.g. R-Help Digest, https://stat.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/r-help). In such a case, the attachment pane often takes the whole window so that there is no space left for the actual message pane. I think it would be preferable if the attachment pane would never grow larger than say 8 lines and if one could scroll the attachment pane. Also, it would sometimes be preferable to be able to click on an attached e-mail and to open this e-mail in the current window (maybe, if the current window already displays an attached e-mail) instead of opening a new window. (But this probably is beyond a simple "bug" report.) This is maybe related to bug #223340, I guess, but this bug report doesn't mention the message pane problem and appears to relate to inline display of attached e-mails or so (or maybe I misunderstood it). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Compose an e-mail and attach a text file with a long file name for ~40 times 2. Send this e-mail to yourself 3. Read it Actual Results: If you open such an e-mail, you only see the header area and the attachment pane. (At least here on my computer.) Expected Results: Always show the message pane. The message pane must not get smaller than a defined number of lines. (BTW, in TB 0.9 the result is even worse because the file names aren't truncated -- it seems.)

I'm not sure -- are you describing bug 242531? If you don't think your bug is either that one or 223340, can you provide a screenshot (smaller is better) showing your symptom? (Attach to this bug using the Create New Attachment link above.)
There is no scrollbar either but, as you can easily see, this is not the main problem. If you open an attached e-mail, you get a similar looking window.

Ah, this is a dupe -- on constructing a test message with many attachments, I see the difference: your screenshot is for a standalone message, that bug's screenshot is for the 3pane. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 242531 ***
