I can't download and install criticall updates in firefox 1.0 it won't download
and install.

You seem to be using Firefox 1.0 Preview Release, not Firefox 1.0.  Please
download Firefox 1.0 manually from http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ and
you'll be up to date.

I don't know why critical updates aren't working for you.  It's possible that
the bug was fixed in Firefox 1.0, so future software updates will work for you.
 If you want to help test software update in Firefox 1.0 by making sure this bug
is fixed in Firefox 1.0, play with the instructions at
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/qa/softwareupdate.html (but maybe using
your own web server).
