RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 287731

People

(Reporter: andy, Assigned: mscott)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 0.9 (20041103)

If the full message headers are displayed (via View > Headers > All) then two
problems arise:

1) The headers cannot be scrolled, so only those lines which fit on the screen
can be seen.

2) The header text overflows into the status bar, possibly blocking the window
resize widget.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select a message
2. Activate full header display: View > Headers > All
3. Adjust height of message window if reqd until not all headers fit in

Actual Results:
The headers which don't fit on the screen cannot be viewed. By changing the
height of the main window or message pane the headers can be seen to overflow
into the status bar. This last operation can also leave overlayed copies of the
grey header titles "stuck" in the status bar until it is refreshed.

Expected Results:
Should have restricted the headers to only display within the message window and
provided a vertical scroll-bar in the grey header panel if the headers are
longer than can be displayed.

Alternatively, treat the headers as part of the main message text and allow
standard scrolling of the message: currently if the headers scroll off the
bottom of the screen then the message body cannot be displayed at all.

Is this really a duplicate? Bug 234078 is about the non-functioning of the
horizontal resize-bar between the message list and the message viewer panes.
This is mainly about the overflowing of the message headers into the status bar
and the consequences of that.

Or are the two connected in some way that's just not obvious to me?
You're right, I duped this to the wrong bug.

Not that it matters too much to me. In my opinion, View|Headers|All is far more
trouble than it's worth; see bug 154712. There have been dozens if not hundreds
of bugs opened for the various display bugs and other interface issues that crop
up when this mode is used.

For those few cases where there is actually a need to see all the headers,
View|Message Source is a far more robust means of getting to them.

I've decided you were right, this does count as a separate bug; duping to
another report of the same symptom.
