Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Let's face it... I have a limited test-bed... one user. But I've done all the
homework and I can't resolve this problem. I've worked closely with my ISP and
everything points back to Thunderbird. Hence the bug report.

Actual Results:
Failed.

Expected Results:
Should have used the login details for the "default" SMTP account defined when
setting up Thunderbird.

I'll work with you very pro-actively to fix/test this problem because: a) I
don't want to use Microsoft products... and b) because I don't want to use
Microsoft products.

I submit as evidence of this bug several threads on this topic that have been
opened on the mozillazine.org forum that describe similar problems as I am
experiencing. Whether you choose to research those posts (and understand truly
this problem) is up to you. I've attempted to resolve this problem on my own
via the solutions that have been suggested, but haven't been able to find any
relief. I have installed the "Show SMTP Username" extension, and haven't found
it to help.

I have one installation of Thunderbird v0.9 that's used to manage two separate
email accounts. There is one SMTP server defined in setup.
Code:

Account email SMTP Server SMTP User
foo.host.com foo@host.com smtp.host.com yadda.host.com*
bar.host.com bar@host.com smtp.host.com yadda.host.com*
* = The "default" SMTP server

Both accounts are supposed to use the same, default SMTP config. The first
account that was set up can send email without problem. The second account,
however, when attempting to send email, receives an error similar to the
following, 'Send failed. Mail server responded account "bar@host.com" not
authorized to send email."

It appears as if Thunderbird is attempting to use the email address for the
account as the SMTP login name instead of the SMTP user that's defined in the
SMTP setup.

I attempted to create separate SMTP configs so that I can associate each config
with the separate email accounts, but this doesn't seem to work either. I can
create as many new SMTP configs as I like, but as long as the server info
remains identical in each one (i.e. smtp.host.com) only one of the SMTP accounts
defined will appear in the drop-down list of available SMTP servers when I
attempt to associate the config to the account.

Joe, I have some questions.
(Q1) What is your SMTP server choice for accounts?
Go "View Settings for this Accounts", see Server Settings/Advanced/SMTP
(Q2) How many SMTP severs did you defined?
Go "View Settings for this Accounts", see Outgoing Server(SMTP), Advanced
(Q3) What is set in each SMTP definition?
See each SMTP setting by "Edit" button
(Q4) Do you use "Global Inbox"? (if POP3)
Go "View Settings for this Accounts", see Server Settings/Advanced/POP
(Q5) Which is default account?
(Top one of account list, "Set as default" button is grayed out)
No response.
