this can be fixed in two ways, fix the caller, or fix the callee.

i'd actually claim that this is a series of design flaws in ipc. but that
shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

what if i want to have multiple namespaces which i can use from a single
instance? i can't. there are other problems, but i'm leaving them as an exercise
for darin.
