Now we have the Welsh localisation of Firefox 1.0 ready for releasing and hence need to become official and obtain CVS write access as described in http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/l10n/using-cvs.html I will fax and mail 'le form' very soon. We have tested and QA'ed the Welsh translations so far in Firefox by replacing the English texts in an en-US.jar file which I have attached. Since there is an offer on the Firefox L10N CVS page, could we have the directories and files from this added into CVS for us please? Please advise if a language pack (xpi) is needed first or whether we need to create a cy-GB.jar file. Cheers!!! Diolch Dewi

Dewi, the directory structure of files needed for source localization in CVS is different than the JAR files you find in the release. Please look through the source directory structure at http://lxr.mozilla.org/aviarybranch/source/toolkit/locales/en-US/ and http://lxr.mozilla.org/aviarybranch/source/browser/locales/en-US/ In addition to chrome files, there are localized files for the default profile, and files with strings needed to build the installer and langpack XPIs.

I've attached the CVS source for the locale packs localised to Welsh. All additional files such as bookmarks.html and installer files have been translated. The English files used were extracted from the entire source tarball at: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.0/source/firefox-1.0-source.tar.bz2 compare-locales.pl returns no errors. If the attached ZIP file is ok, could you add its contents into Mozilla CVS for us please? Thanks!!! btw, 'le form' is in the post. Hwyl, Dewi

Hi,
I don't want to appear like a nag, but I was just wandering what's the situation
so far on this issue?
i.e. - regarding CVS access?
- and setting up the initial directories for the Welsh locale?
Thought I might mention that today Microsoft launched their Welsh language packs
for Windows XP and Office 2003
http://www.bwrdd-yr-iaith.org.uk/en/cynnwys.php?cID=1&pID=case&nID=39
http://www.bwrdd-yr-iaith.org.uk/en/cynnwys.php?cID=1&pID=case&nID=40
So IE is available in Welsh for the first time.
There's a great interest in Welsh software at the moment and many have been
asking us (especially today) about Welsh Firefox 1.0.
Cheers!!
Dewi.

review: 1) Use Unix like line endings everywhere. 2) ./browser/firefox-l10n.js - do _not_ localize @AB_CD@ part 3) But localize ./browser/defines.inc - use own UUID (uuidgen on linux)

Thanks!! All three issues are fixed in this language pack. All files have been stripped of CRLF and left with LF. I'll submit my public key next.

How is this going? I am dying for a Welsh-language Firefox. And I am far from alone. People are asking me about it these days. It's a huge change from a few years ago! Not only are they aware of Mozilla and Firefox, they know it's in Welsh. And they want it. But they are not generally the sort of people who will want to download source trees, search bug-trackers for patches, apply and recompile. So is there any sort of anticipated date for this? Then I can tell people. Thanks!

I can vouch. Gandalf or Pike, can one of you handle the initial CVS commit on the aviary branch? cmp, on which branch should all-locales be changed, in order for the tboxen to pick it up?

I'd like to see this moving along as I want to use the Welsh version but not prepared to use anything less than 1.0 builds. Also would be nice to get a CY Firefox locale into distro releases. debian sarge especially.

Just back from holidays and being offline, so I'm really glad and excited that cy-GB is checked in. Many thanks indeed!! - Diolch o galon! I still need CVS access in order to resolve this 'bug'. Actually our proofreader (who's never really happy) wants me to correct one or two translations. Otherwise, Benjamin - are there further instructions or steps that enable official builds of Firefox to become available in Welsh. I'll be able to finish off our Thunderbird localisation soon as well, so having both available at the same time would be nice.

Dewi: now you have to ask Marcia, and she'll help you. But this can take some time.. You can of course attache patches here, and I'll review them and check in.

builds for QA are available on http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-aviary1.0-l10n/. Please file new bugs on new issues, and use the approval-l10n flag to get approval to land fixes.

We have approved checkins by Axel in bugzilla 282078 for upcoming Welsh Firefox 1.0.1 Unless he or Gandalf are going to check them in on my behalf, I'm going to need CVS commit access to land those in. Cheers! Dewi.

I have created the account. Its username is the same as the email address in the summary of this bug, except that the at sign (@) in the address has been replaced with a percentage sign (%). See the CVS over SSH FAQ and the Localizing Firefox docs for more info about how to use the account: http://mozilla.org/cvs-ssh-faq.html http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/l10n/
