Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: version 0.9 (20041103) a saved search folder searching for messages whose "STATUS is NEW" shows matches in the saved search folders name (bold type and the number of found matches in brackets) after clicking the folder (to run the search), but displays no matches - the window usually showing the mails is EMPTY. shortly afterwards, the saved search fodler's folder name reverts to non-bold type and the number of matches in brackets disappears, too, so the folder looks like all mail in it is read or empty. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. create a saved search folder with criterion "STATUS is NEW" 2. mark the mail folders you want searched 3. save the saved search anywhere you like in the account's folder order 4. click on the saved search folder Actual Results: saved search folder's name changed to bold plus displaying the number of matches in brackets, but no mails are displayed. then the saved search folder's name reverts to non-bold, no figures in brackets. Expected Results: it should have displayed the (copies of) mails matching the criterion in the saved search folder.

A patch was just checked in yesterday for bug 243583 that is related to this -- altho that fix is apparently primarily for searching in IMAP folders. Are your virtual folders searching in IMAP? If so, try a nightly build and see if it addresses your problem.

Ah -- then you're probably running up against the problem described in bug 253266. Instead of "Status is New", try creating the search with Status isn't Read AND Status isn't Replied AND Status isn't Forwarded Unread =/= New
(In reply to comment #3) that works. i do have a difference between actual new mail and matched mails of 1 or 2, but it's close enough for now, so what does this mean for this bug here? is it an indirect dupe of the other bug and should be attributed as such?
